W tym roku POZNAN DESIGN FESTIWAL pod hasłem ATMOSFERA. Będziemy mówili i myśleli o POWIETRZU.

Żyjemy w XXI wieku. Coraz większa liczba ludzi może podróżować bez większych ograniczeń, przeszukiwać niezliczone gigabajty danych, doświadczać realnych i wirtualnych doznań. Większość ludności mieszka na obszarach zurbanizowanych, w coraz lepiej skomunikowanych miastach, z licznymi przestrzeniami kreatywnymi. Przywykamy do przebywania w przyjaznym otoczeniu z licznymi usprawnieniami, wśród użytecznych i estetycznych przedmiotów, które można łatwo poddać recyklingowi. W europejskich realiach, ciągle żyjemy w przekonaniu, że dostęp do pitnej wody, żywności, czystego powietrza i elektryczności jest w zasadzie nieograniczony. Nasze miasta mają coraz więcej zieleni, są coraz bardziej smart i będą dalej się rozwijać. Łatwo zapominamy, że przyszłość jest nieokreślona, nieprzewidywalna, a globalne problemy narastają. Świat, w którym przyzwyczailiśmy się funkcjonować jest wielowymiarowy. Zmiana perspektywy wyostrza zmysły. Pozwala dostrzec i zastanowić się nad problemami, którymi żyją ludzie w innych częściach globu. Większy kapitał, to większy postęp. Większy postęp to zupełnie inne problemy.
Globalizacja, kapitalizm, nadmierna eksploatacja, zmieniające się sposoby konsumpcji, sukcesywne przenoszenie mechanizmów rządzących światem realnym do cyfrowego, to tylko niektóre z nich. Czy jesteśmy zdolni je na bieżąco śledzić? Rozwiązywać? Czy mamy świadomość ich istnienia? Pozornie dla wielu nastała era nieograniczonych możliwości. Istnieje niezliczona ilość rozwiązań i narzędzi, którymi się otaczamy (w środowisku pracy, zakupów, przyjaźni, pasji…), ułatwiającymi nasze życie, jednak bez zastanawiania się nad koegzystencją z naturalnym środowiskiem, coraz bardziej zanieczyszczonym w każdym sensie tego słowa.

Czy możemy zapobiec globalnym problemom i wyzwaniom? Zmianom klimatycznych, objawiających się coraz liczniejszym ekstremalnymi zjawiskami pogodowymi, wpływającymi także na współczesne miasta? Czy zdołamy poradzić sobie z licznymi, ciągle niedostarczenie uświadomionymi zanieczyszczeniami powietrza, w tym pyłami, ale także hałasem, a nawet światłem. Powyższe rozważania pozwalają szerzej spojrzeć na tematykę tegorocznej edycji festiwalu, a jego hasło przewodnie, czyli ATMOSFERA nabiera nowego znaczenia.
W 2019 roku interesują nas rozwiązania, które pokazują w jaki sposób projektanci chronią swoje najbliższe środowisko, w tym współczesne miasta przed problemami XXI wieku, tj. całą sferą zanieczyszczeń, nadmierną eksploatacją zasobów naturalnych i ludzkich, zanieczyszczeniami światła, powietrza i ich wpływem na funkcjonowanie współczesnych miast.

Tegoroczny festiwal jest kontynuacją działań wokół idiomu towarzyszącemu festiwalowi przez ostatnie dwa lata – POZNAŃ MIASTO ŻYWIOŁÓW. W ramach tego cyklu w 2017 roku prezentowaliśmy działania projektowe w obszarze szeroko rozumianego żywiołu wody pod hasłem URZECZENI. W 2018 r. tematem wydarzenia była BIORÓŻNORODNOŚĆ. Sprawdzaliśmy w jaki sposób żywioł ziemi inspiruje projektantów z różnych części świata, starających się dbać o zrównoważony rozwój.

Poznań Design Festiwal will have its sixth edition in 2019. The next edition will be a continuation of activities around the idiom accompanying the festival in 2017-2019, i.e. the city of the elements: POZNAŃ, THE CITY OF THE ELEMENTS.

As part of this cycle, in 2017 we presented project activities in the area of the broadly understood element of water under the slogan RIVER-BOUND. In 2018, the theme of the event was BIODIVERSITY. We were able to observe how the element of the earth inspires designers from different parts of the world who try to take care of sustainable development. In 2019, the Festival activities will focus on the air element, and all the projects presented under the programme will be carried out under the motto ATMOSPHERE.

 Through its implementation, we have set ourselves the goal not only of promoting Polish design, but also of communication, mutual learning and inspiration. Our priority was to build a network of cooperation, through which we constantly strive to contribute to a continuous process of exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of engaged, committed design.

Some of the projects presented at the Festival have a study character, becoming a field for collecting and interpreting visual data. Others take the form of impressions from the frontiers of art on a given topic, often showing the speculative character of the object of reflection. In this way are created scenarios of the world in which we may function in the future. Regardless of their nature, all projects are strictly related to the Festival’s slogan.

For years, we have been making every effort to ensure that subsequent editions end with the presentation of new solutions, relating to the widest possible range of issues within the adopted subject matter.

2019 will be devoted to the element of the AIR, and its motto will be ATMOSPHERE.

We live in the 21st century. More and more people can travel without restrictions, browse countless gigabytes of data and enjoy real and virtual experiences. The majority of the population lives in urban areas, in more and more accessible cities, with numerous creative spaces. We are getting used to staying in a friendly environment with numerous amenities, amidst useful and aesthetically pleasing objects that can be easily recycled. In Europe, we still live in the belief that access to drinking water, food, clean air and electricity is basically unlimited. Our cities have more and more green areas, are increasingly smart and will continue to grow. It is easy to forget that the future is indefinite and unpredictable, and global problems are growing.

The world in which we are used to living is multidimensional. A change of perspective sharpens our senses. Such a change allows us to see and reflect on the problems that people in other parts of the world have to face. More capital means more progress. More progress is a completely different issue. Globalisation, capitalism, over-exploitation, changing ways of consumption, successive transfer of the mechanisms governing the real world to the digital world are just some of them. Are we able to follow them in real time? Are we able to solve them? Are we aware of their existence, in the first place?

Can we prevent global problems and challenges? Can we successfully deal with climate change, reflected in the increasing number of extreme weather conditions which also affect modern cities? Will we be able to cope with the many pollutants which we are often unaware of on a wider scale: light, noise, dust and air? This has an impact on fauna, flora and, above all, on people.

The amount of data collected today is overwhelming. However, few of us are aware of how this information is collected, stored and used and who does it. The data can improve our quality of life, for example through smart cities, yet they can also become a source of continuous control of entire societies, not only by governments but also by supranational corporations.

In the Middle Ages it was said that „city air makes one free”. Today, we often equate freedom with free access to information, transmitted via the Internet, which is increasingly available as a wireless signal. The Internet has become the „air” of the 21st century. The above considerations make it possible to take a broader look at the theme of this year’s edition of the Festival. As a result, its motto, i.e. ATMOSPHERE takes on a new meaning.

As part of the programme, we will present a number of projects that will illustrate the subcutaneous world, which, although not always noticeable, is the closest to us. Not infrequently, in this form, it determines the atmosphere (ambience) in both physical and mental sense.

During this year’s edition we will be interested in solutions that will show how designers protect their immediate environment, including modern cities, against the problems of the 21st century, i.e. all kinds of pollution, overexploitation of natural and human resources, transfer to the virtual world (Virtual Reality), as well as expansion of the A.I. sphere. (Artificial Intelligence) and their impact on the functioning of modern cities, including ecosystems.

We have invited numerous institutions and organizations to the 2019 Festival. For them, problems related to the broadly understood air are the basis of everyday activities. We will present both projects implemented in the Poznań project environment and those created on a national scale. We have also invited partners from China, Germany and Great Britain to cooperate with us.

The Festival agenda includes: exhibitions, presentations, portfolio reviews, films, lectures, discussions, artistic actions and interventions, curatorial guided tours, as well as study walks and workshops for children and adults.

In 2019 we will present a new project, i.e. the DESIGN HUB platform, under which we will organize a conference and workshops with the participation of partners from China and the United Kingdom.
